My Professional Journey

Project Coordination · Operations · Process Improvement

More than 30 years of professional experience across different industries have sharpened my understanding of workflows, dependencies and operational responsibility.

I have worked in passenger transport, financial services, international trade, the skilled trades, a law firm, technical customer support and hotel operations. I have also built and developed my own digital and practical projects.

Across these different environments, one working pattern has remained consistent:

Bringing information together, coordinating workflows, aligning different stakeholders, resolving problems and turning unclear situations into workable outcomes.

Today, I combine this extensive operational experience with structured project work and my current professional development in project management.

This case study draws on real technical, medical and safety-related situations in hotel operations. It focuses on clear initial actions, accessible knowledge, responsibilities, handovers and escalation routes.

Receptionist – Day and Night Shifts

HSM Torreblanca
Sa Coma, Mallorca

In this role, I worked three day shifts and two independently managed night shifts each week.

June 2023 – April 2025

Career Break · Development of Independent Projects

I used this period to develop independent projects and deliberately expand my digital and technical skills.

My main areas of focus were product development, website technology, digital fabrication, process documentation and self-directed knowledge management.

I developed initial product ideas, costed materials and production workflows, and taught myself LightBurn, laser engraving and reproducible production processes. Some of this groundwork later became part of Arrel del Sol.

The machine was successfully implemented and subsequently operated reliably in production.

January 2008 – November 2009

Import/Export and International Order Processing Administrator

March 2003 – December 2007

Family Period with Part-Time Employment

Stader Tageblatt
Stade

During this family period, I worked in two fixed early-morning delivery areas for the Stader Tageblatt.

The independent delivery round began at approximately 4 a.m. and could be combined with caring for our children.

January 2001 – March 2003

Self-Employed Commercial Agent and Financial Adviser

BHW
Stade

Following a two-week intensive training programme in Hamelin, I worked as a self-employed commercial agent and financial adviser. I shared an office with other advisers and built my own client base.

  • Riester pension products
  • Life insurance
  • Home savings plans and allocations
  • Mortgage finance

One particularly formative case involved financing a home for a family with six children. The initial finance application had been declined.

I reassessed the financial situation, presented the actual monthly cost comparison clearly and persisted with the relevant decision-makers. The finance was ultimately approved, enabling the family to purchase the property.

October 1992 – January 2001

Various Passenger Operations Roles

Deutsche Bahn
Hamburg

During more than eight years with Deutsche Bahn, I worked across several operational and customer-facing roles.

Train Attendant – ICE Long-Distance Services

  • Coordinated assistance for passengers with reduced mobility

  • Monitored the signalling panel and platform cameras
  • Wrote and delivered live passenger announcements independently
  • Prioritised time-critical information
  • Communicated arrivals, delays, platform changes and cancellations

Train Manager – Regional Services

As train manager, I was not responsible for driving the train; that responsibility lay with the driver. My role covered technical readiness for departure, operational coordination, passenger safety and customer care.

  • Conducted brake tests jointly with the driver
  • Carried out technical and safety checks of the coaches
  • Confirmed readiness for departure and authorised the train to depart
  • Held sole responsibility for passenger care on board
  • Communicated with the signal box and emergency management teams
  • Alerted police, ambulance services and other emergency responders
  • Organised replacement buses and evacuations

During a serious incident on the line, I coordinated the necessary safety and evacuation measures, arranged closure of the line through the signal box, organised replacement transport and worked with the police, emergency management and other responsible parties.

I was also selected as a voice contributor for an internal Deutsche Bahn motivation and communications CD because of my calm and pleasant speaking voice.

Independent Projects

Since December 2025

Arrel del Sol

Product and Brand Development

Arrel del Sol is my independently developed brand and product project. It includes handcrafted products as well as the non-fiction series WISSEN, WENN ES ZÄHLT.

A current focus is the development of WISSEN, WENN ES ZÄHLT. What began as a single book project developed into a standardised multi-volume non-fiction series with its own positioning, quality standards, product roadmap and staged launch logic.

Case Study 03: Product Development and Launch – WISSEN, WENN ES ZÄHLT

The case study documents the development of the series as a product: positioning, standardisation, roadmap, production decisions and go-to-market preparation.

Project Management Portfolio · Four Case Studies

Real-World Professional Experience and Ongoing Projects

My project management portfolio documents four selected case studies drawn from real professional experience and ongoing projects.

  • P01: Check-in and Guest Data Process – Operations, Process Improvement and Compliance

  • P03: Product Development and Launch of WISSEN, WENN ES ZÄHLT – Product Strategy, Standardisation and Go-to-Market
  • P04: Technical Support and Knowledge Management – Troubleshooting, Prioritisation and Reusable Knowledge

For each case study, I deliberately distinguish between the initial situation, analysis, planned approach, actual implementation and demonstrable results. Ongoing or conceptual project elements are identified accordingly, and confidential company and personal information is anonymised.

Working Style

Structured, Accountable and Persistent

I identify recurring operational problems and seek to understand their structural root causes, combining analytical thinking with practical implementation.

I work calmly, methodically and with a strong sense of ownership, including in situations where information is incomplete or no manager is immediately available.

I raise relevant issues early and address them factually. In decision-making, I prioritise functionality, safety and professional accuracy, including when this requires uncomfortable questions to be resolved.

I approach new subjects largely through self-directed learning: researching, testing, reviewing outcomes and documenting solutions so that they are clear and useful to others.
